Art Department

Mr. David Bergquist and Mrs. Judith Brinkerhoff-Smith make up the Art Department at Christian Liberty Academy.
They both, equally understand that each child deserves to discover that "full art experience", as well as receive hands-on help and valuable training.

The Elementary classes: 3rd - 8th grades feature original lessons that are carefully designed to familiarize students with the basics of the elements and principles of art, while practicing proficiency, all along the way.
All students receive an introduction to the project, detailed demonstration allowing questions, explanation of principles, tips and 'tricks' on the proper use of supplies, their own practice experience, reiteration (when needed) and are given careful, personal guidance through to the finish.

The Elective Art classes: 9th - 12th grades include bits of art history, interspersed with current trends relating art to culture. Student questions are answered with a Biblical perspective detailing how, where, and why we find ourselves in this particular point in history.
Being aware of what some artists have done, and how their art has heralded our entrance into this 'modern' age, gives our students a spiritual advantage over other students who have no awareness.
The Elective classes also, benefit from a more technical approach to creating quality artwork and are given examples, direction, and encouragement, as they produce projects that will join the Elementary classes work for a school-wide, public viewing at our annual Art Exhibit & Salon, featured at the end of April.

There is an After School Art Program offered to Kindergarten and 1st - 2nd grade students for an additional fee. The basic fundamentals of art, with an awareness to age-appropriate lessons, teaches students to use scissors, pencils, acrylic/watercolor paints, and other mediums correctly which will only add to the child's proficiency with reading and writing and increases their overall coordination.
The creation of art for these grades includes funny games, light-hearted instruction, project examples, one on one help with plenty of encouragement for the student, and hopefully, a finished project to take home.

This single event has a long-standing reputation of excellence, as we showcase the current year's students talents, learned skills, and abilities.
Consider joining us and see for yourselves.

Children are naturally creative. So, it's our extreme pleasure to 'tap' into that and stand alongside, or help to redirect the encounter so that a skillful rendering of the subject and a fun adventure, is remembered.
